National Milking Shorthorn Outstanding Progressive Breeder
(Jr. & Sr. Division)
- Each candidate must be a member in good standing of a state Junior Milking Shorthorn Breeder's Association, if there is one in his/her state; and be a junior member of the American Milking Shorthorn Association.
- Two divisions are available.
- A candidate must be between the ages of 9 and 13 for Jr. Division or from 14-17 for the Sr. division as of January 1st and must have carried a Milking Shorthorn Project at least one year.
- A committee of three will judge candidates on their written application and an interview will be conducted on knowledge of the Milking Shorthorn breed, dairy management, leadership activities, general dairy industry knowledge, and future plans. Candidates will be interviewed at the National Convention.
- Recipients of the award will receive a $100 scholarship.

National Milking Shorthorn RACHEL SURRIDGE Youth Contest
- Each candidate must be a member in good standing of a state Junior Milking Shorthorn Breeder's Association, if there is one in his/her state; and be a junior member of the American Milking Shorthorn Association.
- A candidate must be at least entering their junior year of high school.
- A committee of three judges selected by the state hosting the National Convention will interview candidates. The interview and application will be judged on participation in the home farm operation, knowledge of Milking Shorthorn cattle, leadership in AMSS junior society, outside youth activities and preparation for the future.
- Recipients of the award will receive: 1st place- a $250 scholarship from the AMSS plus 10% from the Junior Society Treasury (not to exceed $150.) 2nd place will receive $100 from the Junior Society.
