National Milking Shorthorn Queen Contest Rules
- Each candidate must be a female member in good standing of a state Junior Milking Shorthorn Breeder's Association, if there is one in her state; and be a junior member of the American Milking Shorthorn Association.
- A candidate must be single and between the ages of 16 and 21.
- Each candidate must enter on an official entry blank, signed by her parent or guardian and provide a recent picture of the candidate.
- Each candidate is responsible for her own expenses in connection with the contest.
- Upon winning, the Queen is expected to attend all the events listed below and will be reimbursed $100 for each event.
- National Convention of current year
- Eastern National Milking Shorthorn Show at the PA All American Show, Harrisburg, PA or the Northeastern National at the Big E, Springfield, MA
- International Milking Shorthorn Show, Madison, WI
- Winter National Milking Shorthorn Show, Louisville, KY
- National Convention of following year
- The queen is responsible for her own travel expenses including, airfare, gas, rental cars, and meals when traveling to an event.
- The queen will also receive a $250 scholarship from the junior society.
- A committee of three or more selected by the state hosting the National Convention will judge candidates applications and conduct the interview. Candidates are judged on poise, personal appearance, general intelligence, speaking ability, knowledge and experience with Milking Shorthorns and general dairy industry knowledge. The winner will be announced at the national convention banquet and a crown and sash will be furnished by the hosting state. The hosting state will also furnish a banquet ticket to the incoming queen.
- The queen should represent her title at every Milking Shorthorn event she attends and shall be trained and ready to exhibit her knowledge of the Milking Shorthorn breed and the dairy industry to media and speaking opportunities that may arise through out the year.
- A completed application (requires Adobe Reader) for the contest must be submitted to the American Milking Shorthorn Association, 800 Pleasant Street, Beloit WI 53511 no later than June 1, 2006.
