2011 Wisconsin State Milking Shorthorn Sale Report
In an indication of improving milk marketing conditions and rekindled demand for Milking Shorthorns the 2011 Wisconsin State Sale jumped $300 over 2010 to achieve $1,574 average.
Topping the sale was the beautiful balanced, huge framed Clarefield Mocha daughter Gold Mine R Blaze 905 EXP. Consigned by Nathan and Jody Nus of Gold Mine Farms and selling springing to the service of Kulp-Gen Jurist Ace-EXP for $4,700, this deep red bred heifer is out of the Excellent GE Gold Mine R Beaujolais 778 with 2/02 365d 2x 24,900m 3.9% 967f 3.2% 789p. Blaze’s next dam is the twice W. Arthur Simpson Memorial Award winner for top 305 day milk record in the breed Gold Mine R Outlaw Bella 2E94. Sired by Mericrest Outlaw and out of a V87 Othello daughter, Bella’s last two records saw her finish in 365 days with 34,380 pounds and 31,620 pounds. The Climer family’s Tres Colles Farm, Chillicothe, Ohio were the successful buyer with North Star Genetics in partnership with Kent Hoffman the final contenders. Fabian Almeida was also in the battle over the phone.
The second high price of $3,150 came on the Spring Yearling Lands-Brook Cassidy. Sired by GMC Rebel Logic-ET and out of the V87 Lands-Brook Chelsey, Cassidy is from the deep Lands-Brook Christie 4E94 family. Chelsey, sired by Gold Mine Frost Kourt has 4 Excellent and 3 Very Good sisters, including the multiple All-American Lands-Brook Christina-EXP 2E94. Michael Pederson Ogilvie, Minnesota is the lucky junior who will have Chelsey on the halter this fancy heifer this year. Lands-Brook Farms St. Olaf, Iowa were the consignors.
Bringing $2,850 was Heavenly Haley, an elegant, long, clean dairy March calf consigned by Heavenly Show Cattle, Carrie Ritschard of Monroe, Wisconsin. Sired by Mikes-Dar POD Sampson-ET and out of Rovin Helen Sptfire Healty-EXP, this eye catching calf was probably the most talked about animal in the sale. After a long battle that included the Ruhl Family of Illinois this beautiful balanced heifer will be seen under the tutelage of junior Andrew Rice of Halpin Farms, Cullom, Illinois. Haley is a true product of the Wisconsin State Sale as Carrie purchased both her sire and dam in the 2010 installment. Sampson is an Innisfail Prince of Diamonds from the 2E94 North Star Now You See Stars with records to 4/10 359d 2x 23,950m 3.9% 934f 3.0% 771p. Healty is by Blissful Sophia MA Spitfire-ET, a Valley View Megans Academy son of Blissful Pepper Sophia, out of the GE Rovin Hannah GD Hellen +82.
Junior Bailey Larson of Alma Center, Wisconsin consigned the top milk cow. Fellow Junior Colton Gregory of Harvard, Illinois was the buyer.
